Clown in a Cornfield - Adam Cersare ★★★

Clown in a Cornfield is a Slasher Horror novel. To be honest, I don't read a lot of horror novels- or at all- but I really wanted to expand my reading genres. And when I read this book, I didn't know what to expect; well, this book was a whirlwind of action! It was creepy in all the ways a horror can be and really picks up the pace in the last half.

So, the plot of the book starts with Quinn Maybrook moving to Kettle Springs with her dad for a new start. The town is old and small with a run-down farmhouse in the middle of the cornfield. She soon finds out that things aren't all that they seem. The adults hate the kids here, the kids hate the adults and so the town divided. Things take a horrible turn on founders day, when the Baypen clown mascot with a red pork-pie hat called Frendo goes homicidal and end things for good.

The first part of the book was quite slow paced for my liking but after a few chapters in, the action starts to heat up. The atmosphere created by Cersare was tension filled and ominous. When the killer starts to appear, it's non stop with things happening all over the place. For some, they might like all the slasher scenes, but I have to admit it's not for me- too gory! But that's the point of course, so if you love all this than this is definitely the book to pick.

The characters however, I didn't like. They seem quite flat and I found myself not really caring for any of them. Quinn I suppose is one of the better ones, being the main character who is shown as tough. The writing style also didn't appeal to me so much either since it was fairly basic.

As for the ending though, it was pretty unexpected, and with a fun plot twist. In the end, it's a very good horror story and it will be a hit for horror-lovers for sure but just not for me! I think I will stick to my normal genres because I can't handle any more horror haha.
