Dangerous Alliance is an Austentatious Romance which follows seventeen year old Lady Vicky Aston. Her life seems almost perfect; Althea, her older sister happily wed, her families estate is secure. However, when sudden events are revealed, Vicky must marry before her and her family becomes destitute. This is no easy task as Vicky wanders into the life of society to find herself a husband. Not to mention those mysterious 'accidents' that might prevent her from surviving to her wedding day.

What can I say about Dangerous Alliance? Words cannot express how much I have enjoyed this book. I think I might've mentioned this before in a previous review, I haven't read any Historical Fiction, nor do I know much about these time periods. But... I absolutely loved Dangerous Alliance!

The first chapter of this book immediately got me hooked; it plunged straight into the story. The characters all distinct and likeable; Vicky is a strong protagonist. Tom is also introduced in the first chapter - Vicky's childhood best friend but whom left her after thirteen years of friendship. Of course, they are not on exactly friendly terms in the beginning, but I like how their relationship evolves as the book goes on. Another thing to say about this is how I like that all the characters seem to have some sort of secret. In particular, the character I found most interesting was Mr. Carmicheal. I spent the whole book flicking between opinions of him- it's kept me gripped throughout trying to figure out who is the antagonist really is! I only really figure out what happens just before it is revealed in the end.

It's hard to fault this book. The writing is clear and concise, and flows very well. Cohen's knowledge of history and the law in those time periods is really quite interesting and fascinating - there are things that wasn't aware of until now. The amount of detail that went into this book really makes the book come to life.

Overall, a really good book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I would recommend this to both teenagers and adults. Thanks to Dangerous Alliance, I now want to read more Historical Fiction and works of Jane Austen!
